The film Cabrini will kick off Italian Heritage Month. If you missed Cabrini this spring, either the Potenza Lodge’s showing at the Harken Theater or a showing at another theater, the Dante Alighieri Society is giving you a second chance to see the biographical film about Mother Cabrini, aka St Frances Xavier Cabrini.
Mother Cabrini, the first canonized American saint, was a very important figure in Colorado. She was sent to the Colorado in 1902 to minister to the large number of Italian immigrants in the state. In Denver she established the Queen of Heaven Orphanage and the Shrine on Lookout Mountain. She had a special tie to Mount Carmel, where she established both a convent and grade school. For her contributions to Colorado, the state set Cabrini Day, the first Monday in October, as a state holiday.
